Our Approach
We believe consistent reeds are worth your time and attention. By combining precision design algorithms with computer-controlled machinery, we create oboe reeds that meet exacting specifications – eliminating the variability that comes from traditional hand methods.
Each reed arrives ready to fold, bind, and play. This approach respects the craft of reed-making while acknowledging that professional musicians deserve reliable tools.
Who We Are
Windholz was founded by Walter Egli, an accomplished oboe player and engineer, and his son Simon, a designer and product developer based in Switzerland. Together with input from professional musicians including Christoph Hartmann of the Berlin Philharmonic, we work to improve reed consistency without compromising the qualities that experienced players value.
Our Name
Windholz comes from the German word "Holz," meaning wood. We chose this because it speaks to the essence of what matters: the wood piece where air flows, creating the vibrations that become music. That is our focus – great sounds and great playing experiences.
